Music has the power to set a mood, get the crowd fired up, or, in the worst case scenario, put everyone to sleep. To make sure your reception is truly a celebration, make sure your DJ has some of these guaranteed winners cued up and ready to blast.

1. “You & Me” by Dave Matthews Band
Who will like it: The bride, the groom, and the rest of the lovebirds
When to play it: The first dance

2. “Say Hey (I Love You)” by Michael Franti and Spearhead
Who will like it: Everyone
When to play it: The cocktail hour or between dinner courses

3. “Only You Can Love Me This Way” by Keith Urban
Who will like it: The country-music lovers
When to play it: During the photo slideshow

4. “I Got a Feeling” by Black Eyed Peas
Who will like it: Your guests who are ready to party
When to play it: As you make your reception entrance

5. “Never Had Nobody Like You” by M. Ward
Who will like it: The romantics and nostalgics
When to play it: The cake cutting

6. “My Life Would Suck Without You” by Kelly Clarkson
Who will like it: Your best girlfriends (who think life would suck without you)
When to play it: During the bouquet toss

7. “Hey Soul Sister” by Train
Who will like it: All the couples
When to play it: As one of the first slow songs

8. “Down” by Jay Sean
Who will like it: The younger, dancing crowd — single and taken
When to play it: Following a slow song to get everyone back on the dance floor

9. “Blame It (on the Alcohol)” by Jaime Foxx and T. Pain
Who will like it: Your guests who like to dance
When to play it: Late (when the older folks have made their exit)

10. “Everyday” by Vetiver
Who will like it: All the couples
When to play it: As the last slow song of the night

Inconvenient Wedding Dates
Many wedding sites advocate three-day holiday weekends as great choices for wedding dates – they help you save money, and allow guests more time to travel. The problem is, many guests complain about a holiday weekend wedding date, as hotels and airfare are more expensive, and roads are congested. It also means having to cancel other holiday plans they might have had.

If members of your wedding party are still in school, make sure you check with them about their exam schedule.

Miscellaneous Wedding Dates to Avoid
Daylight savings time
If you’re having a Sunday wedding on daylight savings weekend, will your guests remember to change their watches and get to the wedding on time? It is more of a problem in the spring (when the US springs forward) than in the fall (falls back) as its better for guests to be an hour early than an hour late.

Religious and Cultural Holidays
If you’re getting married in a house of worship, they probably won’t let you get married on an important holiday. But you’ll also want to be sensitive to the religious observances of your guests. Even if they are able to attend, they might be fasting, eating a restricted diet, or have other limitations that will prevent them from fully enjoying your wedding.
